Canon point: I usually take Rikuo from the middle of Darkstalkers 1&2 (both games depict similar events) in which he is unmarried and looking to restore his kingdom.
Bio: Born in a hidden society of Merpeople in the Amazon Basin, early in his life, Rikuo was noticed for his strength, skill and spirit. Whilst a freewheeling, adventurous rogue type, his noble heart was known to all, and he was considered a hero of his people. For that reason, he was selected to be their next emperor, though he spent many years beforehand having adventures.
Once he took on the role of the emperor, he retained his fun-loving attitude but took his duties very seriously. He truly loved his people and felt honoured to be able to serve them. On one day that seemed like any other, Rikuo reflected on how blessed his life was just as a mysterious force came from the sky, annihilating his home in an instant. The devastation seemingly left him the only survivor, and he set out to seek revenge on the one who destroyed his empire- the cosmic being, Pyron!
Rikuo was ultimately not responsible for the destruction of Pyron, that honour going to Demitri Maximoff. He found another survivor in his quest to find his people- a woman named Aqueria, whom he immediately took as his wife. They had many children in the time that followed, but Rikuo was closest to his eldest son, Ricky.
Rikuo's time was split between caring for his family and searching for more survivors. He could feel the presence of others like himself somewhere in the world, but no matter how hard he searched, he could not find them. He returned from a search one day to find Ricky had disappeared. It seemed Ricky had been sucked into another dimension through a mysterious portal- into the Majigen, a world created by the demon noble Jedah Dohma as a tool to collect powerful souls. Rikuo fought some of those souls as he searched for Ricky. Still, when Jedah was defeated (Darkstalkers 3 has no canonical ending, due to there being no sequel as yet, so who was responsible is unknown), the Majigen faded from existence and returned Rikuo and Ricky to the sea- as well as a new, young mergirl named Nicky who had become Ricky's best friend. With Jedah's power gone, the barrier that had been separating Nicky's family from the rest of the ocean vanished. The Sargasso kingdom thus accepted Rikuo as their new ruler.
